Public Information Requests and Open Records

THE PUBLIC INFORMATION ACT

Right to Access

Texas Government Code, Chapter 552, gives citizens the right to access governmental records.

To obtain documents, you must submit a written request (by email, fax, mail, or in person) that includes enough information and detail about the information requested to enable the governmental body to accurately identify and locate the items requested. To ensure proper processing, include a way to contact you.

Although there is not a standard form required to request records, an online one is provided for your convenience or you can download the form (PDF).

Once a request is received, the City will make the records available as soon as practical and will notify the requestor when they are ready. The governmental body may collect a fee as prescribed by law or regulation for the requested documents. If a fee is not prescribed, the fee shall be the actual cost of duplicating the record.
